Cindys Seizure Alert Dog Fundraiser
Description:
My name is Cindy and this is my story!Since the age of five when I was diagnosed with Epilepsy(petite mal) and than at the age of 15 my life changed. My seizures began turn get worse, when my doctor told me that I had ( Grand Mal) Seizures my world fell apart. It was than that I set out trying to prove that my life was as normal as the next persons.Only that was not true! Over the years I have learned to live with all of the disappointments that came with my seizures, like not driving, taking medication, and the isolation which comes with it when you can't do everything else that your friends or family can. Until a couple of months ago when I woke up in the Hershey Medical Center, with the concerned faces of both my mother, son, and doctor staring me in the face.Only to tell me that I had almost dies from 3 very severe (Grand Mal ) Seizures that night, and would have to stay til my levels were stabilized and they were sure that I would be okay! Since then my Epilepsy has gotten worse I am having (Grand Mal ) and( Petite Mal ) seizures daily which tend to interfere with my daily life so much so that I have to constantly worry about falling on down in public. In the middle of a seizure. It was then that I knew what I needed to do! Get another Seizure Alert Dog!Back in 2002 I recieved my first Seizure Alert Dog/Bishop he helped me with everything from letting me know when I would have a seizure to helping me opening, closing doors, going up & down the steps, and just going everywhere with me.For the First time in my life I was able to be more independent. But,in 2008 Bishop was taken from me due to a massive tumor. He alerted until the day he left me! Now after all of this time I have applied for a successor dog who would help me.Because I am tired of waking up with bruises on me,or a really bad headache. After searching the internet and calling around I found an organization that accepted my application.Since then over the past few months I have been attending classes. On the 13th of August they informed me that I needed to see the directer to make an appointment for a home interview, which is the next to the final step to getting matched with my new partner. The hard part is raising the $6000.00 needed for the dog, equipment, paying for training, and expenses needed to stay down there while I am going through team training with other applicants.Who shall be recieving their service dogs at the same time.Especially since I am on disabilityand am a single mom! Seizure Alert Dogs are able to up to 45 minutes before a seizure will happen, even though my doctor has me on medication like(Depakote, Lamictal,Clonazepam,Keppra, and Zonagran) it does not help.Alert dogs can smell the medicine, and sense an aura about a person before they have a seizure. It is for these reasons that I am asking for your help.Any help that you can give me would be gratefully appricated. PLease leave comments if you have any that might me help,or just to talk. Thank You, May the Angels Bless You Alway's!
